Dr. R. Micheal Howlett is Cumberland County born and raised. He grew up in Oxford and spent most of his teenage years in Amherst. He is extremely happy to have finally been able to come back home to practice veterinary medicine.

Dr. Mike (as he likes to be called) took the non-traditional path to become a veterinarian. He attended UNB, Mount Allison and UPEI, went to flight school, firefighter school and wait for it… clown school…before finally deciding to become a veterinarian. He graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in 2012. We find it very exciting that if we need a laugh, a fire put out, or to fly to an exotic vacation destination – he can help us out!!

Dr. Mike has been happily married for 25+ years to his wife Rochelle, & together they have 2 young sons – Aaron & Corey. They share their home with Chance a rescued tripod Golden retriever, another golden retriever named Nanuk, a special Boston terrier mix named Joey, one of our Mama Cat program kitties – a Siamese named Sassy, and a Bengal kitty named Mr. Zoon.

Dr. Mike shares his eclectic taste in music with the staff, ranging from classic country, modern pop, East coast folk and classic rock. So, if you hear a little 80’s rock playing in the hospital (or some very bad karaoke) you will know who picked the music! You may also spot Dr. Mike buying Halloween decorations whenever and wherever possible – his house is the spooky, over-the-top talk of the town in Amherst every October!

Grateful to be home, Dr. Mike is very much looking forward to meeting all of you, and to taking care of your furry (and some not so furry) family members.
