Chrissy

RVT

Born and raised in Springhill, NS, Chrissy is thrilled to be back in her hometown, bringing her skills and compassion to our team as a Registered Veterinary Technician. After spending seven years at a small animal hospital in PEI, she returned to her roots to be closer to family—and we’re lucky to have her! A 2012 graduate of Oulton College’s Veterinary Technician program, Chrissy originally planned a career in wildlife, inspired by time spent in nature with her late grandfather. Her love for pets, however, led her to focus on small animal care, with special interests in nutrition and dermatology. Outside work, Chrissy enjoys reading, baking, crafting, and exploring nature with her partner, Robert. She shares her family home with five cats (Spencer, Maybel, Midnight, Tater, and Nugget), a terrier mix (Holly Dolly), and a chinchilla (Kirby). Chrissy’s dedication to animal care and her friendly, hardworking nature make her an invaluable part of our team!

Questions

  • What is your favorite animal and why?

My favorite animal is the panda bear—they’re truly incredible creatures! While they appear cuddly, adorable, and a little silly, pandas are surprisingly resilient. Despite having one of the lowest birth rates and surviving on a very limited diet, they’ve managed to overcome the odds and step out of the endangered zone, becoming a global symbol of conservation.

  • What’s the most rewarding aspect of your job?

The most rewarding part of being a veterinary technician, especially here at CCAH, is making a direct, positive impact on the health and well-being of animals. It’s even more meaningful knowing I’m helping pets and families in my own hometown and surrounding communities.

  • What’s the most unusual pet you’ve ever cared for?

A sugar glider! These tiny, fascinating creatures are so unique, and I was fortunate to treat one with an eye issue. Beyond cats and dogs, I’ve also had the chance to care for a lamb, baby raccoon, fox, macaw, hedgehog, pigs, and various reptiles like bearded dragons, snakes, and geckos.

  • What inspired you to work in the industry?

My inspiration to become a veterinary technician came from my late grandfather, whose big heart for animals left a lasting impression on me. He encouraged me to learn as much as I could about caring for creatures big and small and was so proud when I became an RVT.

  • What advice would you give to pet owners to provide the best care possible for their animals?

My top advice: prioritize your pet’s diet. Do your research, ask questions about the food you’re feeding, and trust your veterinary team’s recommendations. Nutrition is both preventative and curative—feeding a high-quality diet from the start can help pets thrive and avoid common health issues like allergies or urinary problems. A good diet can truly make all the difference!
