Vet Care Beyond the Clinic: Amherst House Calls and Remote Clinics in Tatamagouche and Parrsboro

Not every pet does well with a car ride and a busy waiting room. Some shake the whole way there. Some are too old or too sore to travel comfortably. And some families simply live a long way from Amherst. That is why Cumberland County Animal Hospital offers care outside our clinic walls, through house calls in Amherst and remote clinics in Tatamagouche and Parrsboro.

House calls in Amherst every Tuesday

Every Tuesday from 1 to 4pm, our team makes scheduled house calls within Amherst town limits. Home visits are a great fit for:

  • Nervous or anxious pets
  • Pets who hate traveling or get car sick
  • Senior pets who find car rides hard on their bodies
  • Families who have trouble getting to the clinic

What we can do during a home visit

  • Wellness exams
  • Vaccinations
  • Medical injections
  • Blood collection
  • Skin and ear cytology sampling
  • Eye checks

We can do more than this list as well. Give us a call and ask about your pet's needs.

How to get ready for a house call

  • Keep your pet in a quiet room before we arrive. Cats in particular can disappear the moment the doorbell rings.
  • Have any medications, supplements and previous records ready.
  • Write down your questions so nothing gets missed.
  • If you have more than one pet, let us know when you book so we can plan our time.

When a clinic visit is the better choice

Some care needs the equipment we have at the hospital. Surgery, dental procedures and digital x-rays all happen at our clinic on Ancestral Drive, where we have a surgical suite, a dental area and an in-house lab. If your pet needs something we can't do at home, we will help you plan a visit that is as low-stress as possible.

In-home euthanasia

Saying goodbye is one of the hardest parts of loving a pet. For many families, being at home makes it a little easier. We offer euthanasia in the comfort and privacy of your home, where your pet can be in a familiar place with the people they love. Please call the hospital when you are ready to talk about it. We will answer your questions and help you plan.

Remote clinics in Tatamagouche and Parrsboro

Cumberland County covers a lot of ground. To make care easier to reach, we hold remote clinics in two communities:

  • Tatamagouche: monthly
  • Parrsboro: quarterly

At our remote clinics, we offer wellness exams, vaccinations, medication injections, blood draws, skin and ear cytology sampling, eye checks, nail trims and more. Clients have told us how much these clinics mean to them. As Angela F. put it in her review, "We really appreciate them providing the mobile clinic in Tatamagouche."

Please call ahead to book your pet's appointment.

Why we offer care beyond the clinic

We build lasting relationships with the families we serve and welcome every pet as part of our community. Meeting pets where they are is part of that. A calm pet is easier to examine, and a family that doesn't have to drive across the county is more likely to keep up with preventive care. That is good for everyone, especially the pets.
